Specialized Job Training

BDI’s Career Academies are specialized job training for people with disabilities and barriers to employment. Career Academies focus on the skills our region’s employers need. From hands-on training programs at community employment partners to classroom-based curriculum and certifications, Career Academies provide opportunities that align with job candidates’ goals.

Logistics Career Academy provides specialized job training in warehousing and logistics, including the Certified Logistics Technician certification and hands-on job training at partner companies during which students gain soft skills and put their skills into practice. Program graduates work with an employment specialist to secure logistics industry jobs.

Office Essentials helps participants gain the skills to succeed in today's fast-paced office environments. This innovative five-week program includes customer service and computer training, as well as instruction in  Windows, the Internet, and a variety of computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Graduates of the Office Essentials program have gone on to work in BDI social enterprises, as well as for community employers.

Food Service provides direct, hands-on training. Clients receive first-hand experience in the food service industry. Opportunities include working at McKenney's Café, a sandwich shop on the campus of McKenney's, Inc., an Atlanta-based engineering firm.

BDI is expanding these offerings to include customer service, call center operations, janitorial, and landscaping Career Academies.

BDI partners closely with community employers to ensure Career Academy program graduates have the skills and experience they are looking for in qualified job candidates.
